Both kids have north facing bedrooms so don’t really get to see many nice sunsets in the spring and winter but in late spring and summer I try to encourage them to just spend ten minutes looking out the window and admiring the sky.

First introduced from Mexico in the 1830’s, these daisies have made themselves homes across the island growing out of hundreds of walls, paths and doorways. Technical name is Mexican fleabane.

Ten minutes of intense sunlight was the best we got today. Just had to wait for someone to walk into the scene to add some scale.

If there’s anything cuter than a 6 week old kitten, I don’t want to know about it. Those blue eyes are something else!

Whilst watering the plants, the frog jumped out. It’s happened before but there’s absolutely no way in, or out, of our garden unless the gate is open (which it wasn’t) and frogs can’t jump 2 metre high walls and fences!

The house prices in Guernsey are unbelievably f**king stupid at the moment, it actually takes the piss. But (there’s always a but with me), when you concider the luxurious lifestyle we have and the views some properties offer, it kind of makes sense. The silhouette of the table and chairs caught my eye, while admiring a view that I’ll probably never afford!

It’s not easy getting up for sunrise in the summer but just being out there watching the world wake up is something that drives me to keep doing it. No more than three cars passed, a few cyclists and a load of birds singing in the trees.

A young rabbit soaking up the evening sunshine on the coast. I tried to get closer but it disappeared into a massive hold in the ground. There must be some seriously large networks of rabbit tunnels under the common, its hard to imagine how vast they must be.

This sums up the last two days, thick hill fog but a pleasant temperature to be out hiking. The fields around Pleinmont are looking stunning at the moment and a perfect place to get away from life.

They may be common but they’re a stunning mini species of butterfly. With the sun hiding for most of the day, the insects tend to stick to one spot until you disturb them.

Macro, a miniature world that often gets overlooked. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that every time I see a butterfly you have to actually say in your head ‘ooh, a butterfly’, or maybe it’s just me!
Difficult to photograph during the day as they are most active and don’t like to stay still for long. This one looked a bit battered and seems to have lost part of it’s leg from the rough winter.

As far as beaches go, this is the most rewarding of them all. 286 steps each way, but worth every minute once you're there. I only had ten minutes on the beach at lunch but I like to test out how far I can get in an hour.

With the longest day looming, the sun is almost at it’s most northerly point this side of the world. The intense orange glow seems to last ages which is great if you’re chasing the tides to get a composition. They don’t call Guernsey ‘The Rock’ for being a flat barren landscape!

This was not what I had planned, I set out to capture the fog over Herm and Jethou but I could see the sun illuminating the coast from round the corner so ran as fast as I could (and nearly died) to catch the light as it beamed over the hill.

A classic for any local adventurer. With fairly clear skies I needed something with not too much focus on the sky and as the light intensified, this just made itself.

Another stunner on the rock. Wandering through the fields around Pleinmont there’s some amazing views out over the west coast.

The greatest things in life are often free and I can guarantee that. Spending a few hours a day doing what you love, even through the harshest conditions, will eventually give you the rewards you seek.

My plan was to chase the thunder and lightning in the early hours but that was short lived. Instead, once the gorgeous orange glow burst over the horizon, I focused my efforts on the rain clouds heading in from behind. As an added bonus, a rainbow appeared in the mix.

We were introduced to the newest additions to the family today. The kids were brave enough to pick them up and the chickens didn’t really care.
