HINTS OF SUMMER

18.08.21

I always remember mid August school summer holidays being non stop blue skies, down the beach with mates and cycling around without a care in the world. Summer seems to have faded away in the blink of an eye this year and there’s no signs of an imminent heatwave returning this year. Other than this bust of sun, it’s been another grey and slightly moist one.

JERSEY TIGER MOTH

17.08.21

A scarce moth found mostly in the south of the UK but populations are rising. I found this one on a pane of glass on an old farmhouse window. I gave it a gentle nudge to see if it would land on some of the fern next to the window but he flew off. Amazing deep red colour to the underside of the wings.

UNDERGROUND

16.08.21

Part of the submerged German trenches below the Pleinmont headland. It still amazes me how such an incredible network of tunnels and trenches were build in such a small amount of time.

OUTSIDE-IN

15.08.21

Alana’s been in Herm for the last four days and it’s safe to say she did miss us but she’s definitely become quite attached the Chewie. Inky isn’t a fan of being carried around like a baby but this one loves to be escorted in your arms.

PURE SHORES

14.08.21

Alderney Point located at the very far north of Herm. I love this spot, it always feels like your thousands of miles away from home but with that nostalgic Herm vibe from childhood memories.

THE GUERNSEY FARMHOUSE

10.08.21

Working as an architect I study the designs of many modern and contemporary homes (archdaily is great) but as I get older the appeal of a traditional rustic Guernsey farmhouse seems more and more appealing. Unfortunately, most with generous gardens and outbuildings are well over any realistic budget.

DARTER II

09.08.21

One of the five dragonflies darting around in the same small field below St Saviours Church. Although there were five, they were on a feeding frenzy and just wouldn’t stay still, until I clocked this one land on an apple tree. It didn’t really move but trying to get a clean contrasting background was tricky. The dark areas came from the shady area under a tree about 20 metres away.

HEAVY RAIN

08.08.21

For me, the clouds and rain make or break a landscape image. I know exactly what I want in my head and I will search for those visions if it means I get absolutely soaked and using a valuable Sunday lie in. After nearly 7 years of exploring almost every square mile of the island, it’s nearly impossible to find new locations. The answer is to keep going back to your favourites and see it in a different light.

ELEMENTS

07.08.21

The Guernsey summers they don’t always show you in the brochure. What you can’t see is my desperate attempt to keep the umbrella from inverting itself whilst keeping the camera dry. Proper autumn feels today.

INKY

06.08.21

Two weeks on and both Chewie and Inky are inseparable. They sleep together, they eat together and I’v even had to get a bigger litter tray because they poop together! Hard to take a sharp photo indoors as they camera just wants to see blackness.

LIGHTHOUSE

05.08.21

After watinig for nearly 45 minutes, I packed up and reached the Yacht Club to turn around and see the sky starting to turn. It didn’t last long and the rain seemed to be swirling around from all directions.

DRAGONFLY

03.08.21

For months I’ve been trying to grab a shot of a dragonfly. They’re all over the place but trying to find one that’ll stay still and allow me to get close is hard work.

ROCQUAINE REGATTA

31.07.21

Unfortunately, we were unable to retain our sand sculpture title (we arrived as it finished) but it’s still a great family day out and you’re almost guaranteed to see old friends along the way.

This was the crab pot pulling, with a little assistance from the bigger kids.
